Author's Note - The 1990's

It was a weird time for horror movies in during the 1990’s. The slasher sub-genre had grown old and boring, franchise series were starting to wear thin, and film making was becoming more expensive and the movies that were produced were bringing in less money at the box office. John Carpenter was flailing with his lack of commercial success while Wes Craven found new inspiration in 1996 with “Scream”.  Producers and directors were still mining Stephen King’s massive library for story ideas but half of those films were a waste of time. The first half of the decade of dark and discouraging but things slowly improved as the year 2000 approached. Unfortunately, the use of CGI was the hot new technique of the time and was slowly showing up in more and more films. Still, the 1990’s had some gems and those are the ones that I’m going to focus on this week.
